The New Roscoe Cinema

This Drawing of The Roscoe was drawn Feb 2003 by Brian Oakes
Thanks very much Brian, Visit Brian's Crypt Here >- www.geocities.com/brians_cryptuk/index.html

This site is now taken up by a supertram track at the curve at the bottom of the new
Hoyle Street / Penistone Road / Shalesmoor Junction

The Roscoe Picture Palace, was at the junction of Jobson Road And Infirmary Road. It is quite difficult to understand the location from a modern local map because the whole of this block was swallowed in the new Sheffield ring road, north junction. This ring road has been under sporadic construction for the best part of 35 years. And during 2003/4 the missing part from shalesmoor to the parkway, is finally due to be finished.

New Roscoe News March 2003

Brian has taken this shot of the site now. This is where the Roscoe once stood. 15 years ago, you would have seen the frontage of the cinema in this shot, he carefully aligned himself with old photos and street map to get the frame right.
