Donnington Monsters Of Rock Festival

Has been the biggest and most important British Heavy Rock Festival of the last two decades, It takes place near the donnington motor racing circuit, which is between Leicester and Derby. All the recent great bands have played there.

Bands Played 18th August 1990

[Headliners] Whitesnake (With Steve Via)
Aerosmith (With Special Guest Jimmy Page)
Poison
Saxon
Thunder [1st band on]

It's reported that only 5 bands played,
and there was a 30 minutes break between each

1990 was a good line up (apart from Poison and Saxon of course) it was a welcome return, because there wasn't a Donnington 1989, In 1988 Donnington was the biggest ever, with 100,000 people attending, Bands were Iron Maiden, Kiss, David Lee Roth, Megadeth, Guns N Roses Helloween. I remember the day clearly because I was moving house at the time and listening to the whole show broadcast live on the radio, and Tragedy struch when two people were crushed to death in a crowd surge. This was a near fatal blow to the festival, there was talk about no Donnington festival ever returning, but thankfully it is now back on regular duty.

Don Valley 1995

In the mid summer of 1995 Sheffield had a big rock festival at Don Valley Stadium

Loads of great bands played Including Van Halen, Def Leppard and Terrorvision

Thanks to Mick ( above ) for contributing this set of pics from the Don Valley Festival

These two photos are of the Van Halen Set
