John and his mates used to hang out in the Peace gardens. Here are some pictures.

The Peace Gardens aren't like this anymore. All the grass is now gone, and the whole area is a stunning square with an incredible fountain, of which any city in the world would be proud of. The distinctive Council, town hall extension (The Egg Boxes) has been demolished, but the Lovely original Victorian town hall which is visible as a backdrop in the pictures above is still there.
I have some pictures of the Egg box building being demolished somewhere.
