This combined Hannover twin tower block is the last example standing in the city. Fifteen of these stood along Norfolk Park, and a further three behind Sheffield train station, until the turn of the 21st century. The Norfolk Park towers were gradually demolished by controlled demolition. They were adverised as a city event and by the time the last one was imploded, hundreds of spectators had grown used to this regular event and lined the grassy terrain to see the event unfold.
The three Claywood blocks were positioned on quite a steep incline above the sheffield train station and supertram track. This meant that they had to be demolished in a non explosive and mechanical manner so they didn't cause any disruption to the transport infrastructure.
Their bright 1960s primary colours led them to get campy nicknames from some local people.
However, this page is all about the block at Broomhall. Which is named "Hanover"
On the right we see the City Lofts crane.
